What is Summer Reading?
Summer reading programs are tailored to different age groups (early literacy, children, teens and adults) and promote literacy and community in a fun way. Each summer a theme is picked and content is created around this theme that libraries can use. Depending on the age group, different skills are highlighted. The early literacy program helps young children build reading and language skills by fostering a love of reading and building confidence in children surrounding books and the library. The adult summer reading program offers a variety of ways for adults to pursue the enjoyment of reading.
Who can join the program?
We welcome all ages to join in our Summer Reading program. We will be having age groups for Pre-K, K-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, 9th-12th grade, and Adult summer reading. We hope that you and your family will sign up for Summer Reading!

High School Program
We will not have a planned curriculum for our high school program this year. This year we would like our high school patrons to sign up in our program to get a chance to earn prizes, but we would also like to offer community service hours to high school students that need them this summer. Summer reading is a great way to get your community service hours and have a great time while doing it. Applications must be turned in by May 22nd. All volunteers will receive a schedule of the days they will be needed.
(depending on how many volunteers sign up, we may not be able to accommodate everyone)
We will not have a planned curriculum for our adult program this year, but we would love for you to still sign up in our program to get a chance to earn prizes. We will have special program days that adults are welcome to participate in for summer reading. We will offer a summer reading book club and our finale carnival for adults to attend. we also welcome adults to volunteer for our summer reading program.
We are so excited to have a summer reading book club this year! This is an extra program for anyone age 18+. We will be reading the book (TBD). For anyone who would like to register, please come into the library to do so by June 1st. We will meet on June 25th to discuss the book and talk about recommendations for future book club titles.
When does it start?
Summer Reading will kick off on June 1st with a final registration (for those who have not registered yet), and everyone can come and pick up their reading logs and schedules. The program will conclude on June 26th with a grand finale event for all participants and their families.
What can I expect when I come?
Depending on what age group you are registered in, we will have different crafts, activities, and sometimes special guests prepared for you. Each age group will be rewarded for reaching their reading milestones each week.
